Water
Turn off the tap: Do not leave water running during daily routines such as when you are brushing your teeth or washing your hands. Alternatively use a prefilled container like a water pitcher with water.
Full loads only: Run your dishwasher and clothes washing / drying machines only when you have a full load.
Shower smart: Reduce long showers. Ideally shower for 5 minutes. Use a timer if needed.
Water wisely: Water plants early in the morning or in the night so that the sun does not evaporate the water as fast.
Reuse water: Put a bowl under the tap when washing fruit and vegetables and reuse that water to water plants.
Energy
Turn off lights: Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
Shut down electronics: Don’t keep electronics on when they are not being used. If you are not using it then turn it off.
Sunlight: Take advantage of sunlight when possible instead of turning on the lights.
Close the Fridge: Don’t keep the fridge door open for too long; know ahead what you want.
Transport: Take public transport like subway or bus or carpool where possible and walk or bike if you can to places.
Single Use Plastic
Reusable bottle: Carry a refillable water bottle for drinking water instead of a disposable plastic bottle.
Reusable cup: Use a reusable cup or tumbler for beverages like coffee or hot chocolate.
Cloth bags: Take a cloth bag or reuse a brown paper bag instead of plastic bags when shopping.
Reusable cutlery: Say "no thanks" to plastic cutlery/ utensils like forks, spoons and knives when ordering food. This simple step helps you avoid single-use items.
No to Plastic Straws: If you need a straw, use a paper or metal straw instead of plastic.
Food
Reduce food waste: Serve yourself only what you know you can eat.
Shop local: Visit a local farmers market where possible because in doing so we save energy as food travels a shorter distance and we support local farmers and vendors.
Eat more plants: Reducing meat consumption by even one day or even one meal a week reduces the killing of animals and allows less greenhouse gasses into the air.
Leftovers: Store leftover food in glass containers.
Compost food scraps.
At the supermarket, do not use plastic bags for each type of product you buy such as tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, apples, etc. Instead, use a recyclable bag for all items.
Other
Love nature: Reduce your time on electronics and spend time outside.
Wear eco friendly clothes when possible like cotton or wool.
Donate/ give away gently used clothes that are no longer used and repurpose unwearable clothes.
Save paper: Use towels instead of paper rolls.
Check out books from the local library.
