Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Ethan and I am so happy to share with you my Eagle Scout Project on Sustainability.
I chose Sustainability to be my Eagle Scout Project because I am passionate about the environment. One of the first lessons I learned as a Cub Scout, in elementary school, was the Scout Law, which outlines how Scouts should go about living their lives. There are 12 principles in the Scout Law, one of which is that a scout is thrifty. Being thrifty is defined by Scouting America as “Using time, food, supplies, and natural resources wisely”. This was an important concept for me to learn, as it helped me understand the importance of conservation from a young age. As a Boy Scout I have earned my Sustainability Merit Badge which has further guided me in my understanding of the importance of sustainability and sustainable practices.
While Scouting instilled the idea of conservation at an early age, I continue to be inspired: my father taught me how to recycle at a young age, my mother showed me how not to waste by only putting on my plate what I can eat, from school I learnt about how easy it is for microplastics to enter one's body, and a workshop in India opened my eyes to that fact that anything can be repurposed even candy wrappers!
I believe that by incorporating small sustainable practices in our everyday life, we can do our part in saving the environment for a better future for all.
